Thank you for joining us on Tuesday, July 15 at 7 PM for the presentation by Eric Cook titled "Thomas Furlong - The Oil Region and St. Louis Sherlock Holmes." It was a wonderful turnout and everyone enjoyed the captivating story of Thomas Furlong. 

From upstate New York to the Pennsylvania Lumber Country to the Civil War - Thomas Furlong began a career as a spy and detective that would continue in the Pennsylvania Oil Region and along the Allegheny Valley Railroad (part of the Pennsylvania Railroad). Later he would move to St. Louis where he would work for the Missouri Pacific Railroad and establish his own detective agency that would rival the Pinkerton's in the Western United States. Among his most famous cases was the Preller Murder Case, dealing with the remnants of the James Gang, and involvement with the Mexican Revolution of 1910-1912. In 1912 he authored a memoir, 50 Years a Detective that documented over 30 of his most interesting cases.

at the North Harmony Sr. Citizens Building, Stow Rd., Ashville, NY. There was a very nice size crowd who enjoyed the talk by Leah Stow about the "History of Hogan’s Hut General Store".
A light dinner and drinks were provided by the Harmony Historical Society, along with subs from Hogan’s Hut served.
